Easter Seals Walk with Me: why we walk

The Easter Seals annual Walk with Me event is taking place June 16 at the Lehigh Parkway. Team Altitude will be there – will you?

First, a little background on Easter Seals:

Easter Seals Eastern Pennsylvania provides services to more than 3,000 children and young adults with physical disabilities and developmental delays, including conditions like autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, spina bifida, fetal alcohol syndrome and maternal drug addiction. Easter Seals Eastern PA serves Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton, Pike and Schuylkill Counties and is the largest provider of Early Intervention Services. Some of their great programs include preschool, counseling, physical therapy, Camp Lily and more.

This is my second year assisting in planning Easter Seals Walk with Me – Altitude Marketing works pro bono with Easter Seals. I work mainly on the publicity part of the event but on the day of there’s a lot going on. Gwen, the Altitude interns and I help out wherever necessary, whether it’s t-shirt distribution, escorting Ferrous the Iron Pig or making sure the ambassador families are ready for the cameras.

This is a great learning opportunity for our interns in event publicity and working with local media. It is also a fulfilling experience for all: you cannot help but smile when you meet children who are now thriving thanks to Easter Seals early intervention and counseling.

Easter Seals needs assistance in keeping all of its enriching programs going. The walk is free but there are many ways to give if you are able- whether it is your time as a volunteer or walker, or a donation. Every dollar raised stays here in our community, helping Easter Seals provide support for those with disabilities- because everyone deserves to live with equality, dignity and independence.

The event will be packed with fun! There is a resource fair for families, children’s crafts and activities, an Easter Seals preschool graduation ceremony and appearances by Elvis, Elmo and Ferrous the Iron Pig. Kathy Craine from WFMZ will be doing the weather live from the walk.

When: Wednesday June 16. 4pm check-in opens, Resource Fair & children’s activities begin; Walk begins at 6:15pm
