Leaving Altitude With the Experience I Need to Succeed

Growing up in the Lehigh Valley, I never imagined I would find such an incredible internship opportunity right around the corner. But Altitude Marketing is proof that bigger – a bigger agency, or the big city – isn’t always better.

My summer here at Altitude has been anything but a “typical” internship. Within a few days, I was drafting press releases and on WordPress, helping to build out websites. My days were anything but mundane; one day I’d be working on various social media sites, the next I was doing the private eye thing, learning about editorial contacts. Altitude has given me the opportunity to explore the many faces of marketing.

Of all the things I learned at Altitude, I was most intrigued by the ever-growing field of search marketing and search engine optimization. No matter how many times it happened, it never stopped being intriguing to see websites and press releases “pop” on Google.

Working at a mid-sized agency like Altitude gave me the opportunity to interact with everyone in the office, from our PR team to the web developers. I learned quickly that everyone here is dedicated and truly passionate about their work. If anything, this internship has taught me that there is more out there than just a 9-5 job. People here actually like their jobs. Crazy, right? I will never forget the day the company founders told us we could leave early one sunny Friday afternoon, a reward for our efforts that week … but once 5 p.m. rolled around, everyone was still working. That’s not something you see everywhere – or nearly anywhere.

As the summer ends and I head back to East Carolina University, I leave Altitude with an internship experience that will be hard to match.

As the summer ends and I head back to East Carolina University, I leave Altitude with an internship experience that will be hard to match. This experience has solidified my goals to go into marketing and PR. And though I’m excited by the prospects of another year of school, I can look forward to graduation with the confidence of knowing I have the experience I need to succeed.

Company president Andrew Stanten is fond of saying that “when you do good work, you get more work.” Thanks to Altitude, I know what it takes to produce good work – and I can’t wait to do more.

Can’t thank Andrew, Stan, Gwen, Jeremy, Fred, Jaime, Chelsea, Justin, Adam and Liesel enough for having me this summer. They truly are the best of the best!
