The Intern Corner: Walk With Me!
The threat of rain couldn’t keep the hundreds of volunteers, participants, and families away from Easter Seals Walk With Me 2010.
Yesterday was the Easter Seals Eastern PA Walk with Me event. Tucked away inside the Lehigh Parkway, Walk With Me was a gathering of children, families and volunteers all out to help raise awareness for Easter Seals Eastern PA — the region’s largest provider of early intervention services. Easter Seals Eastern PA provides programs and services for 3,000 children living with disabilities in Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton, Pike and Schuylkill Counties. Local press was there to help spread the word, and Kathy Craine of WFMZ Channel 69 News did the weather report live from the event.
I was given my own official photographer ‘badge’ and took part in the coverage. As an intern at Altitude Marketing, this was a great opportunity to learn about event publicity and working with the media, but it was also a chance to meet some really wonderful people. Whether it was talking to Marcia Theodoredis (Marketing Director of Easter Seals Eastern PA), or Nancy Teichman (President and CEO of Easter Seals Eastern PA), or seeing any of the child ambassadors, the belief in this cause could not be ignored. There was a multitude of activities going on including a resource fair, children’s crafts and games, an Easter Seals preschool graduation ceremony and a visit from FeFe, a Lehigh Valley IronPigs mascot.
Thanks to all who came out and supported Easter Seals — it was a lot of fun and all for such a great cause. The last time I checked, the event had raised over $11,000. Not bad for a few hundred people on a cloudy Wednesday afternoon!
