The event will be held in the Innovation Institute at Ben Franklin TechVentures® on Lehigh University’s Mountaintop Campus in Bethlehem. The event is described as a cross between Shark Tank® and American Idol®, with entrepreneurs and investors instead of vocalists and celebrities.

“BFTP has been a great partner over the years,” said Andrew Stanten, Altitude Marketing’s president and CEO. “Now, as Altitude celebrates its 10-year anniversary, we’re thrilled to give back. As the 2014 Award Sponsor, we will provide strategic marketing expertise to the deserving start-up that is named this year’s Ben Franklin Venture Idol.”

Judges will select three finalists from a pool of 10 technology entrepreneur candidates. The judges will be looking for early-stage technology companies that demonstrate an aptitude for facilitating future growth through the development of a unique product or service, and can demonstrate how their company will contribute to the advancement of the northeastern Pennsylvania economy.

The finalists will pitch their business concept to investors and attendees. Each audience member will then allocate $100 of “Ben Bucks” in whole or part among his or her favorite contestants. Ben Franklin will award $15,000 in real dollars to the companies based on the audience vote. The competitor to get the most audience “Ben Bucks” wins Venture Idol.

In addition to a cash investment, the winning company will receive a start-up package from Altitude Marketing, which includes a revamped website, and a branding and messaging upgrade.

Last year’s Ben Franklin Venture Idol winner, Pivitec, produces cutting-edge mobile technology solutions for enhancing live professional audio productions and sound quality in theaters and houses of worship. Other finalists included Cerora, Inc. and eVendor Check.
